Hi everyone,We just got back from the factory, so it’s time for a new update!Welcome, Alessandro!First of all, we’d like to introduce Alessandro to you. He is a young engineer and the latest edition to our team. He joined us last week and is responsible for all the activities related to the durability tests. It’s a dream job, because he is riding Linky all day long! ;-) He’s collecting the data and producing reports, working together very closely with Giovanni, our CTIO. Their work is extremely important for the debugging of the systems and to finalize the quality of your Linky.Giovanni (front) and Alessandro are enjoying their job! ;-)Durability TestsSo what do these tests look like exactly? We selected specific roads and paths to really push Linky to its limits; cobblestones, dirt roads, steep hills, bumpers… Alessandro is riding about 30km per day on those roads, which is equivalent to more than double the distance under normal circumstances. The goal is to ensure reliability, debug the firmware, optimize the riding modes and other fine-tuning aspects. Production UpdateAs you know, the battery and plastic parts are already in production and we’re happy to tell you that now the production of the motor has started! We have also finished the PCBA optimization, so that production will start next week. Last but not least, we passed the tests and are now EN13613 approved, which means that the mechanical production can now start as well. All this means that we’re still expecting to start shipping end of August. Winners Goodie BagYou may have seen it on social media already, but we’ve announced the winners of the Goodie Bag contest! It was a great success with the Linky name spreading across the globe, resulting in one winner from the United States, one from the United Kingdom and one from Spain. Hi everyone,As you may have noticed, we decided to go from an update once a week to once every two weeks. This is because we really want to focus all our time and energy on getting Linky ready a.s.a.p. It’s our highest priority. Nonetheless, we do want to keep you informed, so here’s an overview of our latest test results :-)UNBREAKABLEIn our previous update we explained how we were working on Linky’s structure and testing it to be long lasting and resistant, even in the most extreme conditions. We wanted to be able to have a static load of 300kg, but even more important, and dynamic load of 100kg, equivalent to a big man jumping on Linky. Last time we were still a few kilos short, but we’ve finally found a combination of materials and thermal treatments that make it possible! It’s a big result, because it’s a solid structure, yet flexible enough to ride comfortably. Now that we found this, the production of these parts will start soon.PCBA The first batch of PCBA made by the final supplier is ready for testing and debugging! Giovanni is working hard to adjust the final production problems and get it all started.BATTERY PACKThe battery pack is already in production and we are in the process of getting all the certificates for the air transportation, as well as everything related to the safety standard required by the various markets.TESTS IN ACTIONCurious as to what our tests look like? Check out this video with our drop and vibration tests.PRODUCTION UPDATEUnfortunately, we have a little bit more delay and we apologize for that. We understand that you want to ride Linky as soon as possible and we can't wait to start shipping either, but at the same time we also want to make sure that you'll get a reliable and durable board. Hi everyone, It is super exciting to see Linky finally coming out from the moulds. In the summer of 2014, the first sketch of Linky was jotted down with the idea of creating a portable means of transportation that was unique in its sort. It was more a dream rather than a business activity, something that could be useful for people like myself, to live in the city with more freedom and independence, to travel around with everything you need in a backpack. Lots of blood, sweat and tears were put in, with the goal of making this real one day! After a few months, Fabio, Cristiano, Giovanni and Stefano decided to be part of that journey and together we were able to create what is now Linky. Then Piera, Luca, Emanuele, Dan, Colin, Steven, Daniel, Thalassa and a lot of others decided to support us and believe in our project as well… you can’t imagine how powerful just an idea can turn out to be!Last but not least the Indiegogo campaign…you guys made it possible from Linky being an idea, a concept, into a real product! We could never thank you enough for your support! We are a little bit in delay with the shipment and we apologize for that. We’re working hard to give you something unique and we are really close to that point.Enjoy this latest update!PaoloCEO and CO- FOUNDER   What we were up to the last two weeksAs you might have read earlier via our social channels, the last two weeks were all about checking the quality of the pre-production samples. These are the final samples coming from the machines before we go into the real production for your pre-orders. Extra attention went out to the battery pack, PCBA, plastic and the mechanical parts. Toolings  –  everything is ready and working well. We just made some minor adjustments on the swappable battery and locking system. Loading and impact test – we want to make sure Linky is safe and stable. That’s why we are testing the structure to resist a load of 350kg, which is equivalent to a person of 100kg jumping on it. We still miss some kilos but with some final adjustments we’ll meet our target soon. Riding test – we want to make sure the riding experience with the off tool version of Linky is as we want it to be. The structure is rigid enough to provide the precision when turning, yet flexible enough to absorb the vibrations from bumpy roads. The next step is to make some minor adjustments on the trucks and choose the right rigidity of the bushing between 85A, 90A and 95A. What do you suggest? We understand that some of you will go on holiday and might not have someone available to accept the Linky at time of shipping. Of course, we will do everything to make sure you will receive your board. Just so you know: We will inform you via the updates as soon as we know our shipping dates. If needed, we can change the shipping address, for example to your holiday address or to a friend or family member who will be available to receive Linky. If this is what you want, please send us an email via info@linkyinnovation.com with the subject NEW SHIPPING ADDRESS Alternatively, if you can’t provide us with a new address, we could hold your Linky with us and send it to you once you’re back from your travels. Hi everyone,We are SUPER excited, because as you know, we finished our toolings for production two weeks ago, and yesterday we saw our first batch of 20 samples! It’s almost like our babies are being born! ;-)So what’s next? We were absolutely thrilled with the quality of the sample batch. Based on those samples, we will make the final adjustments on some details - basically fine-tune everything - before we make the last batch of samples. We expect to need 3 more weeks for this process. In the meantime, we will also continue the CE Certification process we mentioned in an earlier update. We know that Linky is safe and sound, but it’s better when the officials say so ;-)After those 3 weeks, we’ll start the final assembly process and then you better fill your house with some balloons and a big ‘welcome home’ cake, because that’s when we’ll start shipping your Linky to you!Stay Tuned!The Linky TeamP.s. We’re getting more excited each day, as we’re working on the final stages of various parts in order to get ready for you to use Linky!First of all, we’d like to ask everyone who has pre-ordered a Linky on Indiegogo, to let us know which mobile phone you’re using. You can let us know via this link, it will only take a few seconds and it would be a great help for us!In line with that, Giovanni and the firmware development team have been working on the Bluetooth connection between the remote controller and the Linky mobile app. The app allows you to select riding modes, check the battery status and your trip stats, but it’s also how you will automatically receive new firmware updates for the motor controller!We expect to need one or two more weeks to get the firmware ready and after that we’ll start working on the UI design.Florence Trip to Lorenzo de’ Medici Insititute.With more than 40 years of experience, the Lorenzo De Medici Institute is one of the highest recognized and most popular institutes for students to gain experience abroad as part of their education. We made a trip to Florence to give a presentation to the design students about what it’s like to build a startup company. Not only gave this a chance for us to inspire the next generation, but of course this was also a way to introduce Linky to new people! After the presentation, obviously it was time to give Linky a try. The students had lots of fun testing Linky at the wonderful Piazza San Lorenzo in Florence, or Firenze, as we Italians like to call it :-)That’s all for this week. Hi everyone,A few weeks ago we sent our backers a survey, including asking if they had any questions. We decided to answer them here, so everyone is well informed!The batterySome of you asked about the battery. These are the highlights:- With normal usage, the battery will take you 17km (10.5 miles). We measured it at 18km/h average and flat surface. If you’re asking the maximum of Linky (30km/h, 160kg, 10% or more uphill), you’ll still be able to ride over 7-10km.- Whether or not you want a spare battery is up to you. It's easily replaceable, so you could decide to bring a spare battery along.- If the battery dies when you’re on the road, you can still use Linky as a push board. The resistance of the motor is almost non-existent.Breakdowns & warrantiesLinky is undergoing some thorough tests to make sure you get a safe, sturdy and reliable board, but this is how we help you riding Linky year after year.- Linky comes with a spare belt and two spare wheels, to make sure you’ll have it once the first set wears out.- Much of the normal maintenance you can do yourself. We will provide a step-by-step manual.- If something is off, you will have a 2 year manufacturer’s warrantee and excellent customer service that will take care of everything.- When you have an issue, you can refer to the website or go straight to one of our distributors around the world. We are currently working on this infrastructure and we will keep you updated about that!WaterproofSome of you have concerns about riding Linky in the rain. No need! ;-)- Linky is officially classified as ‘IP65’ which means that ‘water splashing from any direction shall have no harmful effect’. In other words: don’t take Linky for a swim in the pool, but riding in the rain and through puddles will have no influence, other than maybe making it a bit dirty ;-)- But don’t just take our word for it! Have a look at this video, made by Moko, who took Linky for a rainy ride (starting at 2.29s).HeatSome lucky birds among you live in an eternal summer spot and were wondering if Linky will survive being stored in the heat, for example in the back of a car. That will be no problem - the only thing you may notice is that charging will be slower in order to protect the battery from overheating. Hi everyone!Do you remember October 2016? That’s right, we launched the Indiegogo campaign! In less than a week we hit passed the 50% mark and we cannot believe how quickly time went by since then. We’re now at 144%! Let’s look back on the last couple of very exciting weeks and the amazing results the team achieved.Control is everythingOur final board of the remote controller arrived in the first few days of March. Equipped with a Bluetooth connection and four riding modes, you are completely in control of your skate style.Light it upTo ensure you can ride safely during the hours of darkness, Linky is equipped with a LED light. With its wide range you can move around town with a peace of mind.Last hardware updateOur last piece of hardware update arrived with the new electronic PCBA. Its functions went through our exhaustive tests with flying colors.Hot or coldOur Linky prototype including the final electronic motor and battery pack was examined to verify both the reliability of all electronic components as well as the quality of the production. Concurring 320m elevation, 3.5 kilometres up hill and battery temperatures of 76 °, the engine didn’t show any signs of damage and the battery was in a perfect state. Linky passed the temperature tests successfully!PackagingCreating the right package to deliver Linky to you sound & safe is also part of the process. We’re working now with a prototype that is made with regenerated cardboard and without glue in order to have a fully recyclable and environmental friendly package. There's a double layer of cardboard with air in between that serves to protect Linky during shipment.Next StepsThe manufacturing process is ongoing and we are waiting for the first 20 beta samples with the final electronic and mechanical parts. Hi there,It's Friday - time for another update! When selling a product, there's so much more than just the product. For example, the packaging! We recently produced this prototype of the Linky box. It is made with regenerated cardboard and without glue in order to have a fully recyclable and environmental friendly package. There's a double layer of cardboard with air in between that serves to protect Linky during shipment.We've fitted in the parts and the box is now super compact thanks to Linky's dimensions when folded. The box will contain the skateboard, the backpack, the remote, chargers, a user manual, and we've decided to spoil you and show our appreciation: we'll put in two spare wheels for maintenance as well as an additional belt!We are now making the final adjustments to the box and then that items can be checked off from our list as well. Hey all!We’d like to share some insights this week on the several temperature tests we ran earlier. Our Linky prototype including the final electronic motor and battery pack was examined to verify both the reliability of all electronic components as well as the quality of the product. The safety features of the battery management systems were monitored as well, just as the behaviour of the motor under high temperatures.As part of the test Linky was used on a hill for 3.5 kilometres, gaining 320m elevation, after which we left the skateboard on for 5 minutes. No restrictions or power limitations were set for the electronics to check its full capacity. The temperature sensors on the battery and the engines attached to the motor controller were disconnected too. Once the 5 minutes were passed by we evaluated each component on any damage or signs of malfunctioning.The engine didn’t show any signs of damage and the battery was in a perfect state. Despite this severe trip, we still had half of the battery charge left. Hi skateboarding enthusiasts!We are thrilled to announce our Linky Ambassadors Project! Together with 10 ambassadors we’ll collaborate, test and work towards the final version of Linky, to use by you all. Our ambassadors will show their different styles and ways of riding our Linky prototype. At the same time our team will listen to their feedback to further optimise the electric skateboard.Our first partner in this brand ambassadors’ project is Moko. This Italian radio presenter and video creator has been a skateboard lover for ages. On his penny board he covers a daily, 4-miles commute to the Radio 105 studio where he works. With Linky his commute will finally be pushless and convenient. Moko is 33 years old and is the specialist in various music styles at one of the top three Italian radio stations. As ambitious as he is, he even runs his own web radio station each Monday. Hi all!Right on schedule we received the new electronic PCBD this week, including a motor controller, remote controller, a receiver and connectors. This will be the last hardware update that is getting integrated with the most recent firmware version we have got. Of course, its functionality goes through our exhaustive tests first! ;-)Our team has been busy integrating the final remote hardware with the latest mechanical design. The device has two light indicators and two buttons at the top. You can easily switch on the remote controller using one of the buttons. A blue light will pulse to indicate the pairing process with the skateboard. Once the connection between the board and the controller has been made, you can either just set off or select one of the riding modes. Hold the other button, scroll through the four options and choose your style. Picking a riding mode while you’re already whizzing through the streets is possible too. You can go for Sport, Cruise, Eco or Safety, each indicated with its own color. We are curious for your preferred riding modes!The two other led lights of the controller are the status of charge indicators of both the skateboard (lower light) and the remote (upper light). Are the lights green? No need to worry, you are safe to go with a 100% charged battery. Yellow indicates a 75% status, orange a 50% and red a 25%. Once the red led light starts flashing you should start to get nervous with 10% battery power left. It is “board over” when the flashing frequency increases… This way you’ll always know when it’s time to charge while enjoying a cup of coffee. :-) Last but not least, below you will also see where you can store the remote when Linky is folded.Have a good weekend guys!The Linky Team

Hi everyone!With its trendy vibe and beautiful architecture all around, Milan has long been a favourite of Italians looking for an exhilarating day or weekend in a financial and tech metropolis. Us included! So last week we spent the day in Milan, moving around using Linky of course. Let us share this journey with you including some video coverage…Touring through Milan with LinkyThere’s no better way to start the day with a delicious cappuccino at Panini Durini. This is a new Italian food chain that has already become famous for their awesome panini. Full of caffeine we drove to the cultural hub Palazzo Reale, where we took a moment to admire the fantastic exhibition “Manet and Modern Paris”.Before we knew it was lunchtime already. We sat down for some food at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world’s oldest shopping malls, and hit its shops afterwards. If you’re planning to go there, take a close look at the octagon in the centre of this Galleria. The tops of the four walls are adorned with representations of the different continents, beautiful! Are you able to recognise the continents?Our next stop was Castello Sforzesco where we whizzed through the historical alleys. And of course we couldn’t miss Milan’s most famous landmark, the Duomo that sits at its heart. The best news for those who visit by Linky is that you can easily fold the skateboard into your backpack and enter the cathedral without any problems (it’s free to enter too!). A perfect ending of our smooth tour through Milan.We are curious to know which cities you would like to explore with Linky when the time is there. This week we’ve recorded a raw video to show you Linky’s skills in moving over speed bumps, riding off the sidewalk and maneuvering over rough pavement. As you will see in the video below, nothing is to rough for this folding mechanism. With the new riding modes we also demonstrate the start and breaking functionalities. To ensure you are fully informed on our services we highlighted and answered the most frequently asked questions here:Could you provide more details on the warranty? Linky comes with a standard 2 year manufacturer’s warrantee on the battery and board. In the case of a problem you will contact customer services and we will take care of the rest. In addition, as many elements of a skateboard may get damaged due to normal use we will provide a user and maintenance manual with the instructions necessary for the maintenance of components such as wheels, bearings and the belt.  Where can I order an extra belt? There is no need to as Linky get’s delivered with an extra belt already! :-D  How can I pre-order extra Linky products? At our Indiegogo page you can already order an extra set of wheels! We are also working on an updated FAQs post including all info about after-sales service and warranties, as some of you have asked about that.Trip to Tel AvivImportant meetings can be nerve-racking, but when it’s in a beautiful location, it’s not that bad ;-) . Linky went to Tel Aviv, the city with great food, great weather, and definitely a great vibe! There is a mix of surfers, artists and actually lots of electric vehicles like bikes and scooters, so Linky fits right in.While we were there, we had the chance to meet professional skateboarders Yuli and Jonathan. They gave Linky a try and they loved it! It’s always great to hear real professionals saying that Linky is super fun. After all, if they say it, it must be true ;-)The photoshoot we did with them was right in line with Linky’s values of community and travel: the skateboarders were from Israel, Linky’s Paolo is of course from Italy as was Silvia, and the team was completed with Mirjam from Germany. In order to keep Linky water-resistant (IP65 protected), we needed to make sure that the full compartment is sealed. We managed to do that, while still making it possible to swap the battery in less than five minutes!Remote ControlAs you know, the remote control you’ve seen in pictures so far was just a dummy – the final one will look different! But where do you put the RC when you’re not riding? Well, we worked out a solution. Now, once Linky is folded, there will be a special space where you can put the RC inside Linky. That’s why we tested a new lithium ion cell that can provide an increase in the distance covered with a single charge. Best thing: it’s the same weight as the previous battery! We’re now at 17-18 km with a single charge at an average speed of 18 km/h; that’s 3 km more than we promised you in the Indiegogo campaign! Hi everyone,As always, it’s been a busy week for the Linky team!Linky in MunichCristiano went to the ISPO in Munich, Germany. It’s a big trade show for sports businesses and he was there to discuss sales partnerships. Of course, he had his Linky to move around town.Pitch Sole 24 OreThere was another big event for us this week! We gave a pitch presentation to raise capital in an important startup competition which is organized by Sole 24 Ore, well-known financial magazine. Even though the investors were not even within our target group, there was a lot of interest coming from them!Next week there will be another pitch for Business Angels and VC from the United States.User ExperienceOf course, we also worked on the technical side of Linky this week. Specifically, we were working on the folding mechanism. With just one movement, you can now block and unblock Linky in the straight position. This system is created in a way that the skateboard is fixed in the open position when you are riding, so if you’re a pro, you can use the kicktail to make sharp and narrow turns.
